Trauma

Trauma (1993) is Dario Argento's Italian-American thriller — watch it online on iFILM. Minneapolis. A killer the press calls the Headhunter is working through the city with a mechanical decapitation device that leaves no survivors and very few clues. When young Aura loses her parents to the same killer, she and photographer David set out to find who is behind it.

Asia Argento plays Aura opposite Christopher Rydell as David; Brad Dourif turns up as her psychiatrist, a man the evidence keeps circling back to. Piper Laurie and Frederick Forrest round out the cast in roles that complicate the mystery in ways you don't see coming.

Shot in the US, the film is deliberately more restrained than Argento's European giallo work — the baroque excess gets dialled back in favour of procedural tension. Whether that counts as a feature or a flaw depends on what you're watching for, but it makes Trauma probably the most accessible entry point into his filmography for viewers unfamiliar with the genre.
