Synopsis
Two Evil Eyes (Due occhi diabolici, 1990) is an Italian-American horror anthology you can watch online on iFILM. Dario Argento and George Romero each adapted one Edgar Allan Poe story, directing their segments independently — two masters of the genre working from the same source material, arriving at completely different places.
Romero's half tackles "The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar": a gold-digging wife and her lover use hypnosis to control a dying millionaire and secure his fortune, but the experiment goes somewhere it can't be walked back from. Adrienne Barbeau stars. Argento's segment takes "The Black Cat" into tabloid territory — Harvey Keitel plays a crime photographer whose cruelty toward his girlfriend's cat sets off a slow, methodical revenge. Tom Savini, the effects artist behind the zombie look in Romero's own films, appears on screen.
