Coogan's Bluff

Coogan's Bluff (1968) is an American crime thriller starring Clint Eastwood that you can watch online on iFILM. Coogan is an Arizona deputy sheriff sent to New York City to escort an extradited criminal back home. Routine job. Then the prisoner escapes in the city, aided by his contacts, and Coogan decides to track him down himself — without jurisdiction, without patience for bureaucracy, and with a very wide hat that announces exactly where he's from. The NYPD thinks he's a cowboy. He doesn't argue.

Eastwood was 38 here and already fully formed as a screen presence: quiet, precise, dry. The film plays more as character comedy with a hard edge than a straight action picture, and that's what makes it interesting — it's less about the chase than about a particular kind of stubbornness meeting a city-sized wall.
