Synopsis
Heaven Knows What (2015) is available to watch online on iFILM — a raw street-level drama directed by Benny and Josh Safdie and shot almost entirely among real homeless people in New York City. The lead, Arielle Holmes, is not playing a character: the script grew from her own memoir about life on the streets.
Harley drifts through Manhattan chasing heroin and Ilya, her volatile boyfriend played by Caleb Landry Jones. There is no arc, no redemption setup, no dramatic pivot — just the grinding daily math of addiction: panhandling, scoring, losing Ilya, finding Ilya again. The Safdies shot on location with non-actors surrounding Holmes, and the film has the texture of footage that was never supposed to be this close to the truth. A tough watch that earns every uncomfortable minute.
