Moonshot

Watch Moonshot (2022) online on iFILM — a sci-fi romantic comedy directed by Christopher Winterbauer, 104 minutes. Cole Sprouse and Lana Condor in a film set in a future where Mars is colonized and a flight to the red planet is the most elaborate excuse two wrong people ever used to meet.

Walt needs to get to Mars — not for science, but because his girlfriend is there. Sophie has a ticket and a boyfriend waiting for her on arrival. They were not supposed to end up in the same seat. Walt stows away, Sophie is stuck covering for him, and the shuttle becomes a very confined space for two people who have almost nothing in common. Zach Braff plays the founder of the Mars colony with the expected charisma.

The film isn't trying to do anything ambitious with the setting — terraformed Mars is just a backdrop, and the story knows it. The real work is the Sprouse-Condor dynamic, which has enough friction and warmth to carry the runtime. Comfortable viewing that doesn't demand anything from you.
