Synopsis
Wendy and Lucy (2008) is a quiet, devastating drama directed by Kelly Reichardt that you can watch online on iFILM. Michelle Williams plays Wendy, a broke young woman driving from Indiana to Alaska, where cannery jobs are supposedly waiting. Her only companion is her dog, Lucy.
The car dies in a small Oregon town. Wendy tries to pocket a bag of dog food and gets caught — and in that one moment loses Lucy entirely. What follows is a single day: the supermarket parking lot, a payphone she can barely fund, an indifferent security guard (Will Patton). Every small obstacle compounds. The film turns a dog search into a quiet reckoning with an economic safety net full of holes.
Reichardt shot the film in Portland on a tiny budget, and her refusal to push for easy emotion is exactly what makes it stick. No score swelling to tell you how to feel. Just Wendy, and the cost of being poor in a place with no margin for error. Stream Wendy and Lucy online on iFILM.
