Synopsis

Laura Dern plays a lawyer managing a desperate client who has taken a hostage — her competence is total, and the film observes how little that matters. Michelle Williams is a wife trying to build her own home, a negotiation with an elderly neighbour over some sandstone that quietly exposes how far apart she and her husband have drifted. Kristen Stewart is a young attorney who stumbles into a weekly teaching role at a rural schoolhouse, where a ranch hand played by Lily Gladstone develops an attachment that the film neither judges nor resolves. The three stories barely touch each other. That's the point.
