Synopsis
One More Time with Feeling (2016) is Andrew Dominik's black-and-white documentary, available to watch online on iFILM. It follows Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds recording their album Skeleton Tree.
What started as a concert film around a new record turned into something heavier. Midway through the album's making, Cave's fifteen-year-old son died, and the camera ended up documenting a man trying to write and sing through the unspeakable. Studio takes, broken-off interviews, long silences — with his wife Susie Bick and longtime collaborator Warren Ellis close at hand.
Dominik shot it on black-and-white film and in stereoscopic 3D, which gives the grief an odd physical weight, as if it were sitting in the room with you. This is no biopic and no music-video reel; it's a rare record of art keeping a person upright. Essential for Cave's listeners, and for everyone else an honest film about loss that never strikes a false note.
