Matador

Matador (1986) is a Spanish erotic thriller by Pedro Almodóvar that you can watch online on iFILM. Diego was a celebrated bullfighter until a bull put him out of the ring for good. The fixation on death doesn't leave him — it just finds another outlet.

Lawyer María (Assumpta Serna) is driven by the same compulsion. Their connection is anything but accidental. A young Antonio Banderas plays Diego's student, a young man who walks into a police station and confesses to a string of murders he didn't commit. Investigators take the confession at face value. Meanwhile Diego and María circle each other in a game that the law has no category for.

This was Almodóvar still working out his language in the mid-1980s, but the signature elements are already in place: the body as metaphor, violence framed as desire, eroticism edged with something darker.
