Law of Desire

Law of Desire (La ley del deseo, 1987) is a Spanish drama by Pedro Almodóvar that you can watch online on iFILM. It was his third feature film and the first in which he addressed gay desire without detours — direct, funny in places, and building steadily toward a crime of passion that feels almost inevitable.

Pablo is a film director freshly done with his younger boyfriend Juan, now channelling his energy into a theater piece for his sister Tina, a transgender woman played by Carmen Maura. Into this already unstable arrangement steps Antonio — young, rich, and fixated. Antonio Banderas plays him as a man who mistakes possession for love, and the performance is so charged it shifts the film's entire gravity.
