Synopsis
Kika (1993) — watch online on iFILM, Pedro Almodóvar's darkly comic Spanish-French production featuring Verónica Forqué, Victoria Abril, and Peter Coyote. A cosmetologist named Kika goes to prepare a young man's body for burial, accidentally revives him, and promptly falls in love.
That's just the opening. Her new partner's stepfather Nicholas, an American author, wants Kika for himself. A fugitive from a psychiatric ward targets her household. And a reality-TV anchor armed with a helmet-mounted camera prowls the neighbourhood chasing anything worth broadcasting. The film's most controversial scene triggered a fierce backlash on release.
Almodóvar uses the chaos as a vehicle for media satire, though the film sits closer to baroque farce than polished comedy — which is arguably the point. Kika works best as a snapshot of Spain's early-90s pop culture at peak excess. Stream Kika (1993) online on iFILM.
