Synopsis
The Skeleton Key (2005) is a Southern Gothic horror-thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Caroline Ellis, a young hospice nurse played by Kate Hudson, takes a live-in job at a decaying plantation house deep in the Louisiana bayou. Her patient, Ben Devereaux, hasn't spoken in months. What Caroline finds in the attic is a sealed room filled with mirrors, candles, and the remnants of a hoodoo ritual tied to two servants who worked the property decades earlier. The more she investigates, the harder it becomes to tell who is protecting her and who isn't. Peter Sarsgaard plays the family's lawyer, John Hurt is the silent, staring Ben. Director Iain Softley builds the film on Louisiana heat and folk magic rather than jump scares — the dread is slow and specific.
