Spencer James is a standout high school quarterback out of South Central L.A. when a coach from Beverly Hills High pulls him onto a very different team. The move splits his life in two. On the field, people expect him to win games. In the hallways, wealthy classmates treat him like an outsider. Back home, old friends start calling him a sellout. Two families from worlds that barely speak the same language, Compton and Beverly Hills, keep crashing into each other, and Spencer sits right in the middle.

Daniel Ezra plays Spencer without the easy hero polish, and the show is better for it. Football here is just the way in. The real subjects are money, race, and what it costs to take someone else's shot. Taye Diggs, Greta Onieogou and Samantha Logan round out the cast.
