Good Grief

Good Grief (2023) is Dan Levy's tragicomedy, available to watch online on iFILM. When his husband — a celebrated author — dies without warning, illustrator Marc is left with grief and a few secrets he never knew were there.

Needing air, Marc takes his two closest friends (Ruth Negga and Himesh Patel) to Paris, where the comforting getaway curdles into some overdue honesty. Oliver's hidden life surfaces, old resentments between the three crack open, and each of them finally faces something they've been dodging. The city is shot plainly, more a backdrop for quiet, awkward talks than postcard romance.

For Dan Levy, of Schitt's Creek, this is his feature directing debut; he wrote it and stars as well. The Netflix film trades plot twists for recognizable feeling — about the friendships that keep you upright and the grief no change of scenery can fix.
