Synopsis
Le Week-End (2013) is a tragicomedy you can watch online. Nick and Meg Burrows head to the French capital for their thirtieth anniversary — back to the city where they honeymooned, hoping to remember why they ever paired off in the first place.
Two days in Paris become an honest audit of a long marriage. They blow money they don't have on a fancy hotel, bicker on the pavement, make up over wine, then needle each other about every old wound. Jim Broadbent and Lindsay Duncan play a couple for whom tenderness and irritation fused into one thing decades ago. Over dinner, an old acquaintance of Nick's turns up — a smug, wildly successful American played by Jeff Goldblum — and his arrival pries open everything the two were afraid to admit to themselves.
Director Roger Michell, working from a Hanif Kureishi script, made a smart, grown-up film with no sentimental gloss: love after thirty years isn't a finish line, it's a negotiation that never ends. It's for viewers tired of romance about twenty-somethings. Stream Le Week-End (2013) online on iFILM.
