Synopsis

Helen Macdonald is a falconer and academic. When her father dies, she does not grieve the expected way. She buys a goshawk — a wild, fast, barely tameable bird named Mabel — and retreats into the wet fields of Cambridgeshire. Training Mabel takes everything she has. That is the point. Claire Foy trained in real falconry for the role; Brendan Gleeson plays her father in flashback scenes woven through the film.
