Synopsis
The Retirement Plan (2023) is a crime action-comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Nicolas Cage plays Matt, a seemingly burned-out beach drifter on the Cayman Islands whose quiet life gets wrecked the moment his estranged daughter Ashley shows up with her young daughter Sarah in tow — and a furious criminal organization right behind them.
Matt hasn't been part of Ashley's life for years, and their reunion is awkward by design. But as the pursuers close in — led by crime boss Donnie and his enforcer Bobo, played with obvious relish by Ron Perlman and Jackie Earle Haley — it becomes clear that the old man's idea of "retired" is doing a lot of heavy lifting. Ashley starts piecing together a past her father never volunteered.
Director Tim Brown pitches the whole thing as breezy, sun-soaked genre fun rather than a serious thriller. Cage is visibly at ease, Ernie Hudson gets a welcome supporting role, and the film doesn't pretend to be more than it is: a relaxed, occasionally funny watch about a very dangerous grandfather.
