Synopsis
Ulzana's Raid (1972) is a hard-edged western from Robert Aldrich starring Burt Lancaster, and you can watch it online on iFILM. Apache war chief Ulzana slips off the reservation with a handful of warriors on a raid of pure terror.
A cavalry patrol gives chase under green Lieutenant DeBuin (Bruce Davison), a preacher's son who still believes in decency and the rule of law. His scout is the grizzled McIntosh — Lancaster plays him with zero heroic gloss, a tired man who reads both the soldiers and the Apache. The deeper they ride into the desert, the fewer easy answers remain about who the real savage is.
Aldrich made one of the bleakest, most argued-over westerns of the 1970s, the violence shown point-blank and the manhunt playing like a Vietnam parable. Not an adventure but a cold reckoning with cruelty on both sides. Essential for anyone into the revisionist western. Stream Ulzana's Raid (1972) online on iFILM.
