About

Synopsis

Class (1983) is an American coming-of-age comedy-drama you can watch online on iFILM. Director Lewis John Carlino drops naive Midwestern teenager Jonathan into a pressurized East Coast prep school, where his sharper, wealthier roommate Skip quickly becomes both friend and guide.

Skip's idea of mentorship includes pushing Jonathan toward older women in Chicago cocktail bars — which is where Jonathan meets Ellen: confident, compelling, and clearly out of his league. They fall into a brief, intense affair before she disappears. When Skip brings a still-lovelorn Jonathan home for a break, Ellen turns out to be Skip's mother. Jacqueline Bisset plays Ellen, Rob Lowe is Skip, Andrew McCarthy is Jonathan, and a very young John Cusack has an early role in the mix.

What keeps the film from sliding into farce is Carlino's refusal to let anyone off the hook easily. The comedy is real, but so is the damage — and the film is honest enough to sit with that tension rather than dissolve it. Stream Class (1983) online on iFILM.
