Synopsis
A Family (2021) is a Japanese crime drama by Michihito Fujii you can watch online on iFILM. In 1999, a drifting teenager named Kenji loses his father and, almost by accident, saves a local crime boss from a knife.
Taken in by old-school boss Shibasaki (Hiroshi Tachi), Kenji (Go Ayano) swears loyalty and learns to live by a code where honor outranks the law. The film moves across three eras — the late nineties, the mid-2000s and 2019 — and each jump quietly rewrites the rules around him. The brotherhood that once gave him a name slowly becomes a brand he can't shed, as fresh anti-yakuza laws push men like Kenji to the margins. Yuka (Machiko Ono) is the one person who might pull him out.
Fujii has no interest in gangster glamour. He tracks how a country tightens and how a man keeps paying, for two decades, for a choice he made at seventeen — loyalty here costs freedom, and "family" turns out to be both shelter and trap.
