Synopsis
Asphalt City (2023) is a gritty American drama you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire, the film puts Sean Penn and Tye Sheridan together on the overnight shift of a New York City ambulance, riding through Harlem and the Bronx as the city comes apart around them.
Penn plays a paramedic who has spent years building walls. Sheridan is fresh out of school and still flinching at everything. The calls come in fast — overdoses, shootings, people nobody else will touch — and the film doesn't tidy them up. Sauvaire collaborated with real New York EMS workers and shot partly in active hospitals, which gives the chaos an uncomfortable ring of accuracy.
