Then they actually talk, and Anna turns out to be genuinely odd: blunt, a little chaotic, not remotely what Kyotaro expected from someone who looks like she stepped off a magazine cover. His carefully maintained persona starts falling apart.

The series, directed by Yoshiyuki Shirahata, works because it plays Kyotaro's self-delusion straight without mocking him too hard. Shun Horie's voice performance lands the gap between what Kyotaro thinks and what he actually does, and the romance earns its beats rather than rushing them.
