Synopsis
Hounds of Love (2016) is an Australian psychological thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Writer-director Ben Young set his debut feature in the sun-baked Perth suburbs of the mid-1980s — a world that looks ordinary and feels suffocating.
Seventeen-year-old Vicki Maloney (Ashlee Cummings) is snatched off a quiet residential street by a couple, John and Evelyn White. No screaming gets her out. No struggling works. What she figures out, slowly and carefully, is that Evelyn (Emma Booth) is desperate to hold onto John, and John barely sees her. Vicki starts pulling at that thread.
Ben Young keeps the camera uncomfortably close — wide Australian daylight outside the windows, claustrophobia inside — and builds dread without a single jump scare. The horror here is domestic: ordinary dysfunction twisted into something fatal. It's the kind of film that lingers, not because of what it shows, but because of what it doesn't need to.
