Synopsis
Five Days at Memorial (2022) is an Apple TV+ limited series you can watch online on iFILM, created by Carlton Cuse and John Ridley. It reconstructs the five days that Memorial Medical Center in New Orleans spent cut off from the outside world as Hurricane Katrina flooded the city in late August 2005 — drawn from Sheri Fink's Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation for ProPublica and her subsequent book.
Vera Farmiga plays Dr. Anna Pou, the physician at the centre of decisions that would later draw a grand jury and split the medical community. Cherry Jones plays the hospital's chief nursing officer, watching an institution designed for emergencies run out of the tools it needs to function. Power failed. Temperatures in the wards climbed past 100°F. No evacuation came on day one, or two, or three. The series builds its case the way a documentary would — gathering testimony, following parallel timelines — rather than dramatising trauma for its own sake.
Eight episodes isn't a small commitment, but the show earns every one. It's less about the storm than about what institutional systems do — and fail to do — when everything breaks at once. Stream Five Days at Memorial (2022) online on iFILM.
