Synopsis
Foxes (1980) is an American coming-of-age drama you can watch online on iFILM. It's the feature debut of Adrian Lyne, who would later make 9½ Weeks and Fatal Attraction. Four teenage girlfriends drift through the sun-bleached sprawl of the San Fernando Valley, where kids left to raise themselves stumble into parties, drugs and grown-up trouble long before they find grown-up answers.
At the heart of it is level-headed Jeanie, played by Jodie Foster, who ends up mothering the whole restless group. Beside her is fragile Annie, a runaway teetering on the edge, brought to life by Cherie Currie, the real-life singer of The Runaways. Boys, blurry late nights, and screaming matches with parents who barely notice them blur into one long summer that feels like it's heading for a reckoning.
The film stands out for its textured snapshot of late-1970s California youth and a soundtrack shaped in part by Giorgio Moroder. These days it draws viewers as early Lyne and as a rare serious turn for a young Foster between Taxi Driver and her starry 1980s. Wistful, a little naive, but honest about the danger of too much freedom. Stream Foxes (1980) online on iFILM.
