Synopsis
Don't Come Knocking (2005) is a Wim Wenders drama you can watch online on iFILM. Mid-shoot, a washed-up Western star named Howard Spence climbs onto a horse and simply rides off the set, away from the cameras and into nowhere.
Sixty years old and numbing himself with booze, pills and women he forgets by morning, Howard realizes nobody would mourn him if he dropped dead tomorrow. He drifts back to his eighty-year-old mother in Nevada, then on to Montana, where two decades earlier he walked out on a pregnant woman. Doreen, played by Jessica Lange, made her peace with him long ago. Her grown son has not. Sam Shepard wrote the screenplay and plays Howard himself, with Tim Roth, Sarah Polly and Eva Marie Saint filling out the cast.
Wenders shoots the American West as one vast, empty stage where a man has nowhere to hide from his own past. Slow, gorgeous and unhurried — a road movie for viewers who don't mind the long way around. Stream Don't Come Knocking (2005) online on iFILM.
