Synopsis
I Can't Think Straight (2008) is a British romantic drama you can watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Shamim Sarif, who based the story on her own novel. Lisa Ray plays Tala, a London-based Palestinian Christian heading toward her fourth engagement. Sheetal Sheth is Leyla — quiet, British-Indian, Muslim — who happens to be dating Tala's friend when they meet.
The attraction catches both women off guard. Tala retreats to Jordan, falling back on the comfort of family expectations and wedding preparations. Leyla stays in London and tries to sort out what she actually wants from her life, with parents who are equally unprepared for the conversation. The film tracks the distance between what both women feel and what they allow themselves to say.
Shot with a modest budget but a clear point of view, the film stands out in queer cinema for the specificity of its cultural detail — the pressures on Tala and Leyla come from genuinely different worlds, and Sarif knows both from the inside. Stream I Can't Think Straight (2008) on iFILM.
