Synopsis
Nandor Fodor and the Talking Mongoose (2023) is a comedy-mystery you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Adam Sigal. The year is 1935, the place a windswept farm on the Isle of Man, and a family swears a small creature on their land talks back.
Simon Pegg plays Fodor, a Hungarian-American para-psychologist who trusts a good lie far more than a ghost. He drags his assistant, played by Minnie Driver, out to the island to debunk the whole thing. The longer he stays, the harder it gets to tell who is fooling whom — the Irvings, or Fodor fooling himself.
The pull here is tone, not the solution. The case really did grip the British press in the 1930s, and the film refuses to settle whether Gef was a hoax or something stranger. Christopher Lloyd and author Neil Gaiman turn up in small roles. A quiet, dry-witted oddity for viewers who like their paranormal stories served with a smirk.
