Synopsis

Taps (1981) is an American drama directed by Harold Becker — watch it online on iFILM. When a beloved military academy is sold to real estate developers, its cadets refuse to accept the decision and seize control of the campus with live weapons, turning a school standoff into a full-scale crisis.

George C. Scott plays the general who shaped these boys into disciplined, principled young men — and then becomes powerless to stop what that discipline unleashes. Timothy Hutton leads as the senior cadet who takes command. Tom Cruise, in an early career-defining turn, plays the cadet most eager for actual combat. Sean Penn, barely out of his teens, is also here — all three young actors circling the edge of something they can't fully understand yet.

The film's question is genuinely uncomfortable: what do you do with kids you've trained to believe in honor and sacrifice when the adult world turns out not to care about either? Becker doesn't give a clean answer — the tension between the ideal and the outcome is what the whole film runs on. Stream Taps online on iFILM.
