Synopsis
City Hall (1996) is a political thriller directed by Harold Becker — stream it online on iFILM. Al Pacino plays New York Mayor John Pappas, a man on the fast track to the White House. One stray bullet changes everything: a boy is killed in a street shooting, and the investigation that follows starts pulling at threads that run straight through City Hall.
Deputy Mayor Kevin Calhoun (John Cusack) digs into the case and finds that nothing about it is accidental. What looks like a freak incident turns out to connect a mob boss, a federal judge, and political favors stretching back years. Bridget Fonda plays a prosecutor with her own angle, while Danny Aiello and Martin Landau bring the specific menace of men who have always known how to make things disappear.
Scripted by Ken Lipper, Nicholas Pileggi, and Paul Schrader, the film works best as a study of how power actually flows — not through speeches but through quiet arrangements. If you like political thrillers where the corruption is mundane and therefore more believable, this one holds up. Watch City Hall (1996) online on iFILM.
