Synopsis
The Cooler (2003) — stream online on iFILM this Las Vegas drama from director Wayne Kramer. William H. Macy plays Bernie Lootz, a man whose losing streak is so reliable that the Slats casino hired him full-time: he walks the floor, stands near the hot tables, and luck drains out of the room. His boss, old-school pit boss Shelly Kaplow (Alec Baldwin), keeps Bernie on a tight leash through an unpaid debt.
Then waitress Natalie Belisario (Maria Bello) falls for Bernie against all logic — and his touch, once a guaranteed jinx, starts turning to gold. That's a problem for Shelly, whose entire operation depends on Bernie staying broken. Baldwin earned an Oscar nomination here, playing a man so thoroughly built from 1970s Vegas that the 21st century reads as a personal insult.
The film runs two tracks at once: a hard-edged crime story about how the casino business actually works, and a nearly mythological love story about a man whose luck finally turns. Macy gives everything to the role. Watch The Cooler (2003) online on iFILM.
