Synopsis
Stormy Monday (1988) is a British neo-noir you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Mike Figgis. The cast — Tommy Lee Jones, Sting, Melanie Griffith, and a 28-year-old Sean Bean — is reason enough on its own.
Newcastle is in economic trouble, and American operator Cosmo (Jones) sees an opening: buy up the city. Jazz club owner Finney (Sting) refuses. Club worker Brendan (Bean) and Cosmo's former contact Kate (Griffith) find themselves between the money and each other.
Figgis, who later directed Leaving Las Vegas, built this film on atmosphere rather than action. Rain-slicked streets, real jazz on the soundtrack (Sting recorded it), and Tommy Lee Jones playing corporate menace with barely a raised voice. Stream Stormy Monday (1988) online on iFILM.
