Sanctuary (Seasons 1–4)

Sanctuary (2008) is a Canadian-American sci-fi series you can watch online on iFILM, with Amanda Tapping leading both as star and sometime director. She plays Dr. Helen Magnus, a scientist who has spent longer than anyone should live tracking down Abnormals — creatures that are strange, dangerous, and largely misunderstood, some hiding in remote corners of the world and some hiding in plain sight.

Magnus runs a small operation: forensic psychiatrist Will Zimmerman (Robin Dunne), tech specialist Henry, quick-witted Kate Freelander, and her own daughter Ashley. Week to week the team hunts, studies, and shelters these beings. The show's consistent question is whether humans are really the safer species.

What made Sanctuary unusual when it launched was its production approach: early seasons were shot almost entirely against green screen, giving it an uncanny visual texture that set it apart from genre competition.
