Charlie, a bored bank manager stuck in a dead-end life, runs into his old classmate Max at a reunion. Max is ex-FBI, full of big ideas, and very persuasive. He talks Charlie into faking their deaths and slipping into the identities of two strangers — clean slate, new adventure. Except those strangers turn out to have been in very serious trouble.
