Synopsis

Forbidden Zone (1982) is Richard Elfman's cult musical farce you can watch online on iFILM — a black-and-white fever dream about a doorway into the Sixth Dimension.

In the basement of the Hercules house sits a door, and beyond it — by way of a giant intestine — lies the Sixth Dimension. When Frenchy tumbles through, its pint-sized King Fausto falls hard for her, and the jealous Queen Doris locks her away. The Hercules clan and the hapless Squeezit Henderson set off to haul her back home. Don't go hunting for logic here: it's a parade of freaks, painted sets, cancan routines and pure nonsense.

Danny Elfman wrote the score — his very first for a film, long before Tim Burton and The Simpsons. Hervé Villechaize and the gloriously loud Susan Tyrrell fill out the frame. Richard Elfman grew the whole thing from his stage troupe's live act, and the result splits a room down the middle: some walk out halfway through, others rewatch it for decades. A midnight oddity for anyone who loves the genuinely strange. Stream Forbidden Zone (1982) online on iFILM.
