Synopsis
Something in the Dirt (2022) is a sci-fi horror laced with mystery and deadpan comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Two neighbors in a Los Angeles apartment building witness inexplicable events in one unit and decide a documentary about it might finally make them rich.
John and Levi, played by the directors themselves, Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, haul cameras, lights and a pile of conspiracy theories into an empty flat. A crystal ashtray floats. Strange light pulses. Numbers turn up everywhere. The longer they shoot, the less they trust the phenomena or each other, and the cut of their "movie" starts rewriting what actually happened.
Benson and Moorhead made this as a two-man crew during lockdown, which is exactly why it feels so claustrophobic and unsure of its own footing. It carries the signature they built on The Endless and Synchronic: tiny budget, huge ideas, paranoia teetering into comedy. If you like puzzle-box indie sci-fi that cares more about its questions than its answers, settle in. Stream Something in the Dirt (2022) online on iFILM.
