Synopsis
Prehistoric Planet (2022), Season 1 is the David Attenborough dinosaur documentary you can watch online on iFILM — five episodes that travel back 66 million years to the closing act of the Cretaceous, the last age before the dinosaurs vanished.
Each episode takes a single habitat: coasts, deserts, freshwater, ice worlds, forests. The focus isn't spectacle for its own sake but behaviour. A pregnant Tuarangisaurus shepherds her calf past the ocean's deadliest hunters. Male Barbaridactylus pterosaurs duel in the skies over North Africa to win a mate. An eight-ton feathered Deinocheirus wades an Asian wetland trying to shake off biting flies. In a snowbound forest, Pachyrhinosaurus and Nanuqsaurus square up as old rivals, and the run ends with a young Triceratops losing its mother deep in a cave.
Jon Favreau and the Planet Earth team built it, so these animals come across as creatures with habits rather than movie monsters, modelled on recent paleontology.
