Synopsis
Good Girls Revolt (2015) is an Amazon drama you can watch online on iFILM, set in a New York news magazine at the close of the 1960s. Female researchers there write the stories, develop the sources, and do the legwork. The bylines go to men. The arrangement has a name: standard practice.
The show follows several women who start pushing back. Genevieve Angelson, Anna Camp, and Grace Gummer lead a cast that includes James Belushi as an editor who isn't hostile to his female staff — he just can't see why things should be any different. That's the detail that makes it land. The series draws from Lynn Povich's book about the 1970 Newsweek lawsuit, in which the magazine's female employees sued for sex discrimination and won.
