Synopsis
Roger Dodger (2002) is an American indie drama by first-time director Dylan Kidd, available to watch online on iFILM. Campbell Scott plays Roger, a New York ad executive who has reduced all human connection to a set of manipulation techniques — and genuinely believes it's working.
One evening his sixteen-year-old nephew Nick shows up, played by a young Jesse Eisenberg. The kid wants to learn how to talk to girls. Roger obliges, dragging him through late-night bars and parties while running his mouth about power, desire, and the supposed rules of attraction. Isabella Rossellini, Elizabeth Berkley, and Jennifer Beals are the women who make it clear just how hollow that playbook is. Nick, meanwhile, turns out to be a faster learner than his uncle expected — in ways Roger hasn't prepared for.
Shot mostly on handheld cameras across a single Manhattan night, the film is sharp, talky, and unexpectedly moving. Stream Roger Dodger online on iFILM.
