Synopsis
The Night of the Iguana (1964) is John Huston's drama from a Tennessee Williams play, ready to watch online on iFILM. Defrocked clergyman Lawrence Shannon now herds a busload of American tourists down Mexico's Pacific coast.
Stranded at a ramshackle hilltop hotel, Shannon is pulled three ways at once — by its earthy, newly widowed owner Maxine (Ava Gardner), by a serene traveling artist named Hannah (Deborah Kerr), and by the teenage tourist whose attention has already cost him everything (Sue Lyon). Richard Burton plays a man unraveling: drunk, disgraced, clinging to the last threads of his faith.
Huston shot it in the then-obscure fishing town of Puerto Vallarta and put the place on the map for good. The black-and-white film took home an Oscar for its costume design and remains one of the sharpest Williams adaptations on screen — a sweaty, talky chamber piece built for actors who relish a verbal brawl.
