Synopsis
The Bible: In the Beginning... (1966), directed by John Huston, is an Italian-American epic you can watch online on iFILM. The film moves through the first twenty-two chapters of Genesis in just under three hours — Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, Noah and the Ark, the Tower of Babel, and Abraham's final test on the mountain.
Huston himself plays Noah and provides the voice of God, which gives his scenes an unusual gravity. The cast reads like a challenge to itself: Richard Harris as Cain, George C. Scott as Abraham, Ava Gardner as Sarah, Peter O'Toole appearing briefly as all three angels at Mamre. Producer Dino De Laurentiis shot with real animals for the Ark sequences and built sets in Italy on a scale that the decade rarely matched. The result is uneven — episodic by design — but the ambition is visible in every frame.
