Synopsis

Massamba has survived years of bondage by keeping his head down. His sixteen-year-old daughter Mati refuses to. When the two slip into the island's forested interior, plantation owner Eugène Larcenet sets a feared slave-hunter on their trail — a cold, relentless tracker played by Benoît Magimel.
Simon Moutaïrou's debut feature is told partly in Wolof and Fon rather than only French, putting the enslaved at the center instead of their owners.
