Synopsis

Detective John Lowe is working a case: murders staged to match the Ten Commandments, each one precise and unhurried. The trail leads to the Cortez. James March built the place in the 1930s with hidden corridors and drains for a reason. The Countess has occupied the top floors ever since, sustaining herself in ways that don't follow normal biology. The longer Lowe stays, the harder it gets to remember which side of the investigation he is actually on.
