About

Synopsis

Meteor (1979) is a Cold War disaster picture you can watch online, directed by Ronald Neame at the tail end of the seventies catastrophe craze. A comet shatters the asteroid Orpheus, and a five-mile chunk of rock now barrels toward Earth at thirty thousand miles an hour. Nothing on the planet is built to stop it.

Dr. Paul Bradley, played by Sean Connery, once designed America's secret nuclear satellite Hercules — and now he's hauled back to aim it. Trouble is, Hercules alone can't crack a target that size. The only math that works requires the Soviets to swing their own illegal orbital weapon into the firing line, which means two governments pointing missiles at the sky instead of each other. Natalie Wood plays the Russian translator caught between the rooms, with Karl Malden, Martin Landau and Henry Fonda as the President holding the line.

What dates it is also what makes it interesting: this is a rescue that hinges on superpower détente, not a lone action hero. The flooded-subway climax in New York still plays grim for a 1979 release, and the all-star roster gives the panic real faces. If vintage end-of-the-world spectacle and prime Connery are your thing, settle in. Stream Meteor (1979) online on iFILM.
