Synopsis

Jesus (1979) is an American biblical drama you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Peter Sykes and John Krish, it follows the Gospel of Luke with unusual fidelity — every line of dialogue is drawn directly from the text, with no invented scenes or composite characters. British actor Brian Deacon plays the title role; the entire film was shot on location in Israel.

The narrative covers roughly three and a half years: the healings, the Sermon on the Mount, the growing conflict with the Pharisees and Roman authorities, the Last Supper, and the crucifixion. Produced by Campus Crusade for Christ as an evangelism tool, it went on to become one of the most widely distributed films ever made — translated into more than 1,600 languages and dialects.

As cinema it is deliberately unadorned, almost documentary in register. No dramatic scoring swells, no actorly flourishes. That restraint is either its strength or its limitation depending on what you bring to it. As a cultural artifact of global reach, though, few films from any genre come close.
