Synopsis
The Wind (2018) is an 86-minute horror-western you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Emma Tammi and starring Caitlin Gerard as Lizzy, a frontierswoman living on a remote stretch of 19th-century American prairie. Ashley Zukerman plays her husband, who is frequently away, leaving Lizzy alone with the landscape and a wind that, as the tagline puts it, never stops.
When a young couple moves onto a nearby homestead, it feels like relief. But the wife grows increasingly erratic during her pregnancy, insisting that something out on the land — not quite human — is circling them. Tammi structures the film non-linearly, cutting between Lizzy's past and present in a way that keeps ambiguity intact: is this a haunting, a breakdown, or something the frontier produces in people left too long without company? The film doesn't rush to answer, which is exactly the right call.
What Tammi gets right is that open space is its own kind of trap. The prairie offers no walls to press against, no neighbors to signal, nothing to interrupt the wind. Gerard carries the whole film on that logic, and it's a genuinely unnerving performance. Stream The Wind online on iFILM.
