Synopsis

Wiener-Dog (2016) is a dark comedy anthology from Todd Solondz that you can watch online on iFILM. A single dachshund passes between several unconnected owners, and each chapter is a separate short film — same dog, completely different people. Julie Delpy, Greta Gerwig, Danny DeVito and Ellen Burstyn each take a turn, playing characters who have almost nothing in common except quiet, persistent dissatisfaction.

Solondz isn't making a film about a dog. The animal is a device — a passive observer that moves through suburban frustration, failed ambition, and late-life regret without judgment. Each owner reveals something about themselves in how they treat it. The humor is deadpan and dry, the sadness underneath it entirely real.

This is Solondz at his more restrained end, which somehow makes it land harder than some of his more overtly provocative work. Not a crowd-pleaser. But for viewers who know his style — or who want something genuinely unlike anything else — Wiener-Dog delivers. Stream it online on iFILM.
