Synopsis
The Lion Woman (Løvekvinnen, 2016) is a Norwegian period drama you can watch online on iFILM. In the winter of 1912, at a remote railway station, a girl named Eva is born with fine pale hair covering every inch of her body.
Her mother dies in childbirth, and her father, the stationmaster, hides the child away out of shame. Eva grows up half-shut from the world, with only her nanny willing to fight for her right to be treated like any other child. The condition is hypertrichosis, but beneath the strange surface lives a sharp, stubborn girl aching to step outside. Rolf Lassgård plays the broken father, Ida Ursin-Holm the grown Eva, with Connie Nielsen among the supporting cast.
Director Vibeke Idsøe adapted Erik Fosnes Hansen's novel of the same name into a quiet, meticulously dressed study of acceptance and isolation. It rewards anyone drawn to restrained Scandinavian cinema where feeling outweighs plot. Stream The Lion Woman (2016) online on iFILM.
