Synopsis
Sex (2024) is a Norwegian drama from writer-director Dag Johan Haugerud, available to watch online on iFILM. It premiered at the Berlinale and opens the filmmaker's loose trilogy about desire, intimacy and how we read ourselves.
The two leads are chimney sweeps — both married, both certain they are ordinary heterosexual men. On the job, one of them has a brief physical encounter with another man and refuses to file it under either infidelity or a hidden orientation; he simply tells his wife about it. The other keeps having a dream in which David Bowie looks at him as if he were a woman, and the image quietly pulls his sense of self apart. From there the film is mostly talk: with spouses, with each other, with themselves.
Haugerud is less interested in sex as an act than in the words people reach for to explain what happened to them. The camera holds still, the conversations run long, the drama stays internal — calm Scandinavian cinema for viewers who like a movie that thinks out loud. Everyday Oslo grounds it.
