Synopsis
Electrick Children (2012) is a coming-of-age drama you can watch online on iFILM. A fifteen-year-old from a sheltered Mormon colony hears rock and roll for the first time and becomes convinced the music reshaped her body and her fate.
Rachel grows up in a fundamentalist family in southern Utah, where almost everything worldly is off limits. On her birthday she finds an old cassette, and for the first time she hears an electric guitar and a stranger's living voice. Weeks later she discovers she's pregnant and insists the song is responsible. As her parents rush to arrange a marriage, Rachel slips away to Las Vegas to track down the singer on the tape, certain he's tied to whatever happened to her.
This debut feature comes from Rebecca Thomas, who drew on her own Mormon upbringing. Julia Garner (later of Ozark) leads before her breakout, with Rory Culkin and Billy Zane beside her. It's a quiet indie about naive faith colliding with a louder outside world — no judgment, no moralizing. One for fans of festival cinema built around an unusual heroine.
